I read about Nia in a local newspaper article and was intrigued. I had experienced many years of illness and limited activity. Having begun the journey to wellness following major surgery, I was yearning to move and express my spirit. I wept with joy during my first Nia class. I later completed the white belt training because of my deep belief in what Nia has to offer: Joy of movement, health and healing, strength, balance, personal growth and a sense of community....the list, for me continues to grow! Nia is pure joy, and I love its creativity, expressiveness and adaptability. I feel my students and I are dancing together down a beautiful path to health and healing. I am a certified Brown Belt Nia Instructor.

I fell in love with Nia the first time I saw and participated in it in 2003. After retiring
from the medical field, I became a white belt teacher and hope to spend the rest of
my life teaching this happy movement experience. I have taught people of all ages
and abilities and enjoy showing them how movement can bring joy into their lives.

The beauty that Nia brings out in individual students inspires me to teach this
lovely form of movement. I see a hand bent with age offer a heart felt gesture; I see
an athletic expression of energetic movement - both movements are gifts. I've
been fascinated with encouraging health both professionally and personally. My
master's degree is in health promotion with a focus in cardio-respiratory fitness. I
work in public health. I am a certified fitness instructor through the American
College of Sports Medicine and am certified to teach (and currently also teach)
yoga and spinning. I love to dance and love the fun, delicious movement, and
transformation Nia brings to myself and those I teach. Come play!
I first discovered The Nia Technique back in the summer of 2006 with Trish. The
routine was Alpha-Omega and I remember it like it was yesterday. The music and
movements touched my core, my soul. After that, I was hooked. Thanks to the
guidance and support of Trish and Mary, I took the white belt training in January
2009 and I am now certified to teach. I want to share this wonderful experience
and expression with everyone. I am a certified Green Belt Nia Instructor.

I love Nia, it keeps my interest, it keeps me motivated and best of all - it is kind to my
body!!! With Nia, there are new ways to move, intelligent ways to work and tone the
muscles. In my class, not only will you burn calories, improve the functionality of your
body, find your balance, but you will have fun! For you to find joy in your life is a major
priority to me. I love it when my participants leave with a huge smile on their face. When
they find joy in class, they'll take that joy home with them then share that joy with family
and friends. Joy can be contagious! Now the bonus for taking my Nia class is - I like to
add Pilates and Bones for Life to my Nia class for safe-effective core training, and using
proper holistic movements to build bone tissue with natural movement. If you would like
to learn more about me and my other certifications please check me out on the

Nia is a transforming experience in my life. Through Nia, I’m continually renewed
in mind, body, and spirit. As a practicing social worker and psychotherapist, my
guiding philosophy has been to join with others in finding authentic connection
to themselves, in their relationships, and to the spiritual/healing forces in our
lives. Nia has provided a consistent way to stay centered and energized. I came
to Nia after 15 years of running and weight training. I wanted something more
holistic and less hard on my body. When I discovered this fascinating, unique
fitness and lifestyle experience, I was hooked. I never dreamed I would find
something that so efficiently and comprehensively increased my fitness and that
was absolutely fun. I’m more flexible, stronger, have better balance, and I’m in
better aerobic condition. I know how to move in “my body’s way” to avoid
problems and to heal my body. I’m more joyful, my childlike spirit has come out,
and I love sharing within the Nia community. Nia is one of the most accepting,
non-intimidating, playful ways to fitness and enjoyment of life in this body.

I discovered Nia in 2003 during my quest for an exercise program that
I would stick to for more than three months – six years later, I still love
every minute of it! As a scientist by day, I find that Nia helps balance
out my logical and practical side with this creative, expressive, and
therapeutic movement form that leaves me feeling energized and centered. I
completed my white belt in 2009 and now look forward to sharing the joy of
Nia with my students.

My whole life has been a blend of athleticism and dance. Nia has continued
me on this path. It has given me an avenue for freely expressing and loving
my body at any age and any size. It has helped me improve my flexibility,
stability, and mobility. It has helped me get out of my head and into my body
and feel the joy of movement. Through Nia, I want others to join me in
knowing that exercise is not punishment for an "imperfect body" or
punishment for enjoying the flavor of a particular food. Exercise through Nia
is honoring the one body, big or small/old or young that we have been given
to us in this life. I am a Sacred Athlete and invite everyone to be one, too.
